Why Transfer Your PF Instead of Withdrawing?
PF transfers are managed through the Unified Portal. Visit our EPFO services guide for a complete overview of all account management options.
Whenever you change jobs, it is highly recommended to transfer your old PF balance to your new member ID rather than withdrawing it. Withdrawing before 5 years of continuous service attracts a flat 34.6% TDS penalty. Transferring preserves your continuous service history, ensuring you qualify for the lifelong EPS pension (which requires 10 years of service).
Prerequisites for Online Transfer
- Your UAN must be active and linked to your mobile number.
- Your Bank Account, Aadhaar, and PAN must be seeded and verified (KYC approved).
- Your previous employer must have marked your Date of Exit (DOE) and reason for exit.
- Your new employer must have generated a new Member ID under your existing UAN.
⨠New: Automatic Job-Switch PF Transfers
EPFO has introduced a massive system upgrade! If your UAN and Aadhaar match perfectly across both your old and new employers' records, your PF transfer will now happen fully automatically. As soon as your new employer deposits the first month's PF contribution, the system will merge your old PF account into the new one without requiring any manual Form 13 submission, employer sign-off, or physical paperwork.
Step-by-Step Manual Transfer Process (Form 13)
If your account does not qualify for the automatic transfer, or you need to transfer an older account manually, follow these steps:
- Log in: Go to the EPFO Unified Portal and log in with your UAN and Password.
- Online Services: From the top menu, click on
Online Services>One Member - One EPF Account (Transfer Request). - Verify Details: Your personal information and current employment details will appear. Verify them.
- Select Attestation: Under "Step 1", select whether you want your Previous Employer or Present Employer to attest (approve) the transfer claim. (We highly recommend selecting your Present Employer as they are usually more responsive).
- Fetch Old Account: Enter your UAN and click
Get Details. Select your previous Member ID from the dropdown. - Authenticate: Click
Get OTP, enter the OTP sent to your Aadhaar-linked mobile number, and clickSubmit.
